Instagram, as it is, may be changing.

The company announced yesterday that they are running a test in Canada this week that removes likes from the public view of your account. You as the account owner will still see them, others will not.

“We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get,” an Instagram spokesperson said.”

Ask yourself—

“If Instagram, Facebook, and all the other social platforms went away tomorrow, what would that mean for you and your business?”

Would you still be attracting clients?

Would you still have a way to connect with them?

Would you still have a way to get your message out?

These platforms should not be your “end all, be all” marketing tool. It was never meant to be that! Social media is a means of connecting with people.

Now does that mean you shouldn’t use it as a way of amplifying your message? No! But it should only be a small piece of your overall communication puzzle.

Let’s talk about what else you can add to your marketing mix outside of social media.

1. Blog

Your website is something you own, your blog content is something you own. Instead of using social media as your main means of speaking to followers, give them a taste of what you want them to know and then invite them to find out more on your website. This gives them a chance to peruse through the rest of the site and learn more about your offerings.

 2. Referral Program

When you are looking for a service or product, who do you go to for a recommendation? For many, it’s friends, family, and acquaintances. Peer recommendations have a strong influence on decision making, that’s why we recommend creating a referral program. Send out an email to former customers and offer a FREE service, a percentage off, or even a gift card, if they a customer they refer books or purchases with you. Bonus points if they also leave a review on Google too! (Google My Business reviews are often overlooked, but can a positive impact on SEO!)

3. Email Marketing

Collecting email addresses on your website is an easy way to send out your own content to people that already like what you have to say. Like your website, your email list is something you own. You can take it to the email marketing provider of your choosing and send your content directly to them. Looking for ways to collect emails?
