As design styles evolve, so should your brand. Read on for 5 up-and-coming design trends to keep your branding looking fresh.

1. Minimal Type

Simple is in! If you want a logo that will last longer than the latest trends, minimal type is the way to go. Classic serifs and modern sans-serif or a combo of the two make for a beautiful, clean logo.

2. Warm Color Palettes

Bright white paired with all shades of pink, orange, yellow, and red are in! Many brands are taking a more subtle approach to this trend by utilizing small quantities of the lighter shades of these colors. Warm tones are especially prominent in photo editing, as trends shy away from extreme saturation and move toward a softer, warmer feel – perfect for summertime!

3. Custom Illustrations

As electronic illustration technology develops further, hand-drawn art is making its way to the forefront of web and packaging design. The illustrations are elegant, simple, and fun, adding a playful feel to any brand. We’ve seen a lot of illustrated cityscapes, flowers, and animals.

4. ALL the Serifs

After years of online dominance, the clean sans-serif fonts like Arial and Avenir are starting to get a little, well, boring. While the classic sans-serifs won’t be going anywhere, you should expect to see more thick serifs adding character and charm to all types of brands. Use the chunky serif to emphasize titles and headers – just be sure not to overdo it or you’ll jeopardize legibility.

5. Open Compositions

Bye bye to boxy frames – free-flowing designs are in! With open compositions, your brand tells a story beyond the page or the screen, creating a deeper sense of mystery and intrigue for the audience. You can expect to see elements spilling off pages, creating the illusion of “something more” just beyond the edge.
